ACD wins 2nd Place Award in the 2015 NKBA Design Competition

It’s been an exciting month so far!! One of my designs was featured in a 6 page Editorial in Fort Lauderdale Design Magazine, and a few pictures of my work appeared in the Miami Herald Home Section and Florida Decor Magazine. I also recently had the opportunity to help with the interior design for a kid’s  room makeover for an upcoming episode of Operation Build. (which airs on the History Channel, and H2)  This month has been an absolute dream, and I am so thankful for all the amazing things that have happened!

To cap it off, earlier this week I traveled to Las Vegas to attend the NKBA Design Competition Awards Ceremony at Tryst, in the Wynn Hotel & Casino. There, it was announced I placed Second in the Small Bath category of the National Kitchen and Bath Association Design Competition! I had been a judge in their national design competition in 2013, but this was my first time winning an award. Below, is a little more about the NKBA Design Competition…

The 2015 NKBA awards entries were judged on the following five core areas: Safety & Ergonomics, Elements & Principles of Design, Design Planning, Creativity and Presentation. Each of the industry experts selected to judge was either a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD ) or both a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD ) and a Certified Bath Designer (CBD ).

There are 6 categories, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in each:

BATH: Powder Room, Small Bath, Large Bath  KITCHEN: Small Kitchen, Medium Kitchen, Large Kitchen.

In addition, there are 6 specialty awards given– Green Design, Universal Design, Best Before & After Kitchen and Bath, Budget Kitchen or Bath, and the Honorary Builder/Remodeler Award. There is also the HGTV People’s Pick Kitchen and Bath Award, and the Overall Best Kitchen and Bath of 2015.

Receiving my award

My winning design was a bathroom I designed in Davie, Florida. My clients wanted an elegant bath, so we chose beautiful Diana Royale marble, and white cabinetry with lots of detailing, and crystal knobs. The counter tops were a classic Crema Marfil, and all of the fixtures were from Kohler’s Memoirs collection, in brushed nickel. The result– a timeless, elegant space.

The winning designs appear in NKBA Magazine, as well as Kitchen & Bath Business News Magazine. You can check out all of the winning entries here on Pinterest!

with my award 🙂

The awards ceremony was so much fun, and I got the opportunity to meet many of the other award winning designers, which was great. There were so many beautiful kitchen and bath designs in the competition!

with my amazing parents

I was so happy that my parents were able to attend the awards ceremony at the Wynn. They have forever been so supportive of my career, so it was really meaningful to me that they were there. The following day after the ceremony was the start of KBIS, the kitchen and bath industry show. The winning designs were also on display at the NKBA booth at the show. Stay tuned for my next post on all the awesome things I spotted at KBIS and Las Vegas Market!!
