Alena Capra is the owner of Alena Capra Designs, an award winning, interior design firm based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is a graduate of both the University of Miami, and the Metropolitan Institute of Design. Alena has more than 15 years experience as an interior designer, and is also accredited through the National Kitchen and Bath Association, as a Certified Kitchen Designer and a Certified Bathroom Designer. She has completed numerous interior design projects in Florida, as well as in other areas of the country, including New York and Minnesota.
Her design expertise has been leveraged by various Home & Design shows around the country as a speaker, and her work has been published in many national and regional media outlets, including Better Homes & Gardens Kitchen + Bath Ideas, Tile Magazine, Miami Design, Fort Lauderdale Design, the Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, Miami Herald, and the Sun Sentinel, to name a few. She has also won several national design awards for her work as well, including the 2015 Cosentino “Bath of the Year,” and Second Place in the Small Bath category of the 2015 NKBA Design Competition. Most recently, Alena was named one of four finalists, in the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s “Professional of the Year” Award. Alena has also participated in several Design Showcases, including “Design for the Stars” at the Miami & Fort Lauderdale Home Design and Remodeling Shows, DCOTA’s “Around the World in Four Rooms Showcase”, and the inaugural Coverings “Installation & Design Showcase” in Orlando. Alena served as the 2017 Industry Ambassador for Coverings, the largest global tile & stone exhibition in North America. She is also a Brand Ambassador for Robern, where she designed one of their new product vignettes, that was featured in their catalog earlier this year.
Alena has made numerous television appearances as well, from design segments on local networks, to national television, where she is currently the on-camera, Lead Designer on the build team, on the series Operation Build, (airing on A&E and FYI networks). In 2014, she was a competitor on season one of the FYI Network‘s renovation competition series, Rowhouse Showdown. As half of Team AC2, Alena competed in design challenges for 6 episodes, where they renovated an old Rowhouse in Cincinnati, room by room. She has also designed for HGTV, creating the room designs behind the scenes for season one of Weekends With Luis, which aired in 2011-12. The series was filmed in Miami, and featured weekend make-overs of kitchens, bathrooms, master suites, and outdoor spaces.
Ms. Capra also enjoys being involved within the design community. Alena was a member of the NKBA’s Certification Test Board 2015-16, and has also had the honor of being selected as a judge for their 2013 National Kitchen & Bath Design Competition. She was a member of the host committee for the Salvation Army of Broward County’s “Red Shield Re-Design Bash,” where she has also designed a piece of furniture for the auction the past two years. In March, 2015, Alena was selected as one of the 20 designers chosen to participate in Kid Sanctuary Campus , where she designed a nautical themed bedroom, and she will now be designing one of the bathrooms, in the new Boy’s Cottage. Her most recent undertaking, was as a participating designer in the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island’s “Taste of Project Design Gala.” which was held in October 2015. Alena designed a multi-sport themed vignette, where all the items were sold at the Gala, to raise money for the RMH of Long Island.
In addition to being passionate about interior design, Alena enjoys giving back to the community as well. She is also proud Alumni of both the University of Miami Sunsations Dance Team, and the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, and enjoys participating in alumni events with both organizations.
