About

Alena Capra is the owner of Alena Capra Designs, an award winning, interior design firm based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She is a graduate of both the University of Miami, and the Metropolitan Institute of Design. Alena has more than 16 years experience as an interior designer, and is also accredited through the National Kitchen and Bath Association, as a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD). She has completed numerous interior design projects throughout South Florida, as well as in other areas of the country, including New York, California, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.

Alena enjoys public speaking, and has shared her design expertise at many events throughout the country, from Home Shows, to Showroom Openings. Her design work has been published in many national and regional media outlets, including Better Homes & Gardens Kitchen + Bath Ideas, Tile Magazine, Contemporary Tile & Stone, Florida Home and Garden, Beautiful Kitchens & Baths, American Express, The Costco Connection, Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, Miami Herald, and the Sun Sentinel, to name a few.

She has also won several national design awards for her work, including the 2015 Cosentino “Bath of the Year,” and Second Place in the Small Bath category of the 2015 NKBA Design Competition. In 2016, Alena was named one of four finalists, for the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s “Professional of the Year” Award. Most recently, she was chosen as one of six “Praiseworthy Picks” for Kitchen & Bath Business Magazine’s 2019 Person of the Year feature, and named to Kitchen & Bath Design News’ 2019 “Top 50 Innovators” list.

Alena serves as the Industry Ambassador for Coverings, the largest global tile & stone exhibition in North America, and has held this position for the past five years. She is also a Brand Ambassador for Robern.  Alena has also worked with brands, including Cartier, Legrand, Philips Hue, and Signify.

Alena has made numerous television appearances, from design segments on local networks, to national television. She is the host of SoFlo Home Project, the weekly design show airing on the Miami/Fort Lauderdale ABC  affiliate, Local 10. She has also hosted segments on episodes of Designing Spaces, which airs on Lifetime. Prior to that, she was the lead (on camera) designer on the series  Operation Build, (2015-2016) which aired on A&E, FYI, and the History Channel. In 2014, she was a competitor on the FYI Network‘s renovation competition series, Rowhouse Showdown. She has also designed for HGTV, creating the room designs behind the scenes, for season one of Weekends With Luis, which aired in 2011-12. In addition to television, Alena often appears on camera for many design  industry related videos, as both a host, or spokesperson.

Ms. Capra also enjoys being involved in design education. Alena was most recently the on-camera Bath Design expert, for the NKBA ‘s Certification Study Guide. In addition, she was a member of the NKBA’s Certification Test Board 2015-16, and has also had the honor of being selected as a judge for their 2013 National Kitchen & Bath Design Competition.

She loves to lend her design talents to charities, and in the summer of 2019, she designed a room for a Wish Kid, with Make-a-Wish Southern Florida. Alena has also been a member of the host committee for the Salvation Army of Broward County’s  “Red Shield Re-Design Bash”, for several years, where she also created several pieces of furniture for auction.  She has designed and furnished rooms for  Kid Sanctuary Campus , including a nautical themed bedroom, and a football themed bath, for the newly built Boy’s Cottage in West Palm Beach. Other notable charities Alena has worked with include Ronald McDonald House, where she designed a vignette for the 2015 Ronald McDonald House of Long Island’s “Taste of Project Design Gala” . In addition to being passionate about interior design, Alena enjoys giving back to the community as well. She is also proud Alumni of both the University of Miami Sunsations Dance Team, and the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, and enjoys participating in alumni events with both organizations.
